The ScanShare™ software enables your Macintosh to share Apple® Scanners with other Macintosh computers connected to your network.
The 20-pages manual can be compressed into few paragraphs (System 7 users can use Balloon Help™):
Installation (both clients and servers):
1. Place the ScanShare file into "System Folder"s (into the "Extensions" folders if you use System 7). Make sure that AppleTalk is on.
ScanShare on the server should be loaded AFTER the Scanner INIT (OK, now they are called "System Extensions"), so if you renamed your Scanner file, rename ScanShare too.
2. Reboot computers.
On Server (i.e. on a Macintosh with a scanner):
1. Select ScanShare in the Chooser and click "Options...".
2. Click the "Share Your Scanner" box, enter the name for your scanner in the "Scanner Name:" field, and click "OK".
On Client:
1. Select ScanShare in the Chooser and select the scanner name.
If you have an Apple Scanner connected to your Macintosh, but prefer to use a remote one:
2. Click "Options..." and select the "Use Remote Scanner" button.
If you want to use your local scanner, select the "Use Your Scanner" button.
When your scanner is being used by a network user, you can see his/her name in the "Options..." dialog box. You can also click the "Disconnect" button to make him/her to cry.
Any Macintosh can operate as a ScanShare server and as a ScanShare client: when somebody works with your scanner, you can use scanners attached to other computers.
---------------------- Demo Version ---------------------------
This demo version of ScanShare has limited session time (1 min).
An error in the AppleTalk driver resulted in system crashes when using ScanShare with internet (i.e. when it operates through network bridges). This version is changed to avoid those situations.
